PTSD Books: The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

Published in late 2014, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma, is likely the most up-to-date, thorough review of the history, physiology, psychology and treatment opportunities for PTSD. Written by Bessel van der Kolk M.D., a world renowned trauma expert, I personally found this to be the most illuminating book I've read on the topic. Knowledge is power. PTSD literally rearranges the brain’s wiring; understanding the physical transformation trauma survivors endure is a powerful argument against the "all in your head" myth; this is validating for every survivor that has ever heard or felt the pressure to "just get over it." Truly an amazing, powerful, validating read. My #1 pick for understanding PTSD. Rated 5 Stars on Amazon, with over 500 reviews. Bessel van der Kolk M.D. has dedicated his life's work to the healing of trauma survivors.

Excerpt: "Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Such experiences inevitably leave traces on minds, emotions, and even on biology."
